First Haircut!

So it's not really a first haircut ever, but it was Tanner's first haircut by ME!! Although it seemed like a good idea in theory, when it came time for him to sit down and let me start buzzing... he seemed a little apprehensive.Since our house was a little warm (when I say a little, I mean a lotta warm. No AC) we went down to our basement apartment and Shawn and Telly gladly let us in for this little project. Telly was more than happy to take lots of pictures!

Let's read the directions. How do you work this thing?

I'll read the directions, you get everything all set out and ready to go.

Tanner: "Now Kenz, this is how you work this. Don't mess up"

Ok. Looking good.

Tanner: "You're not doing it right. Just give it here. I'll do it.

Now, Now Tanner. I can do this. Just let me figure it out.

This is a family picture! See Sadie in the window?! She always wants to know what's going on.

So we got to the blending part...I put my pride aside and asked Shawn for help. He stepped in and did a great job blending the back.

I finished the rest. I think it looks great! Thanks Shawn and Telly for letting us use the apartment!

Mi Hermanita's farwell

This last weekend was my little sister Whitney's farewell. She has been called to serve in the New York, New York North mission... Spanish speaking. I am so excited for her!
I didn't take as many pictures as I hoped but all the pics below are from the brunch on Sunday after sacrament meeting.

Me and my Grandma Bonnie
 Courtney, Robin, Dani
 Me, Grandpa Floyd and Judith
Mikaela & Jeff (the cutest couple ever)
Mom and her besties (Robing & Ann)
 Whit & Colter
 Me & Mom
 Me & Mikaela

 The Floyd girls!

The entire family was at my parents house in Boise by Saturday morning. We all went to the Boise Temple around 7am since the temple is closing for over a year for extensive renovations. It was such a wonderful experience to be there together.
I know Whitney will make an extraordinary missionary. Her companions are going to be so lucky to spend time and get to know her. I am almost jealous she gets to embark on this journey in her life to share the message of the gospel so the people of New York City can find happiness in their lives. I will miss my little sister dearly, but this decision will change her life forever... for the better. Good luck Whitney!

Jesus wants me for a SUNBEAM teacher

As many of you have noticed, I don't blog. I feel like I have nothing to blog about if I don't have pictures with it, but tonight I've decided I will post something that has no pictures.... just has meaning in my life.
Tanner & I were called as Sunbeam teachers over a year ago. In the beginning, it was a very trying and challenging calling (actually, it still is). Almost each Sunday Tanner asks in his joking manner, "can we ask to be released yet?" I laugh and take a deep breath as I enter opening exercises and and start to consider his joke. Although some of the children test my patience more than I ever thought I could be tested, I realize how much of a blessing this calling really is. Each Sunday, I end up laughing at some of the comments one of the three year olds make. Whether I'm asking them to keep thier hands to themselves, put their bum back on their chair or raise their hand if they want a turn, their sweet spirits and simple lessons help me realize that a simple testimony is all you need.
My class roster:
Tanner: Tobias did you fart? Don't do that again or I'll tell your Dad
Tobias: No, I'll tell your Dad.
Me: Ok class, we are making neclaces with hearts. You draw the things you are thankful for on your paper hearts and we'll attach it to your necklace.
Larissa(the only girl in the class): Here's all my hearts. I used the rest of them because the boys don't want them.
Tanner is in the back of the room throwing the boys around one by one. They are not interested in my heart activity.
Nash is an only child in his family that literally sometimes screams for my attention or makes every lesson topic into an airplane or robot context.
Zeke: Almost every week we end up pulling his thumb from his mouth or his finger from his nose.
I love our three-year olds. The answer to every question is "Jesus" or when the lesson is a bit slow, they won't stop asking when they can color or when one kid has to go the bathroom, all of them all the sudden have to go to the bathroom too. Even though most Sunday's I feel like the kids didn't hear a word I say and I wonder why I take the time to prepare a lesson, I know that those are the Sunday's that are more for me than for them. I am grateful for my calling.

Happy ThAnKsMaS!

(Left to Right: Matthew, Laura, Kristy, Dan, Kim, Heather, Tanner, Kenzie)

Happy Thanksgiving/Christmas at the Nordstrom's!
Tanner & I made the scary drive from Provo to Redding in a whole 14 hours. We saw every semi-truck pulled off putting on chains and about 9 slide-off accidents. Glad we made it safe thanks to my husband's good driving skills!!
Although the boys moaned and groaned about it, we took family pictures finally! YAY!

After the amazing Thanksgiving feast, it is a Nordstrom tradition to drive up to Lassen National Park and cut down Christmas Trees! Uncle Keith, Aunt Candace, the Nordstrom clan and Travis and Jennifer joined us this year and we cut down a total of four trees. I think we may have left a bare patch in the forest!
The snow as about 3 feet deep and our puppy Sadie had a blast pouncing around the white powder!

I, of course, did not bring snow pants and was soaking wet from the knees down. Who cares though! I picked out my first real tree for Tanner to cut down and bring all the way home!

Since all the kids were in town for Thanksgiving, we decided to do a Thanksgiving/Christmas combo because Dan could not come home from Afganistan for Christmas. Thanksgiving was Thursday, cutting trees and decorating was Friday and Christmas was Saturday.

Dan had roasting skewers made for all the kids by a blacksmith in Afganistan.

These are some determined faces! We had such a nice time in California with Tanner's family. We are so grateful for Dan and Kim and for the hard work they do to give us kids such a nice Holiday.

What A Great Summer!

Our Family Picture!
Last weekend I drove home because Dani had her baby! Little Olivia was born on Thursday, September 16th. She is beautiful and both Mom and baby are healthy. All of the Floyd girls came in town for her birth!

It was fairly warm for an early September weekend, Courtney's son Colter decided to strip down and play in the water in his birthday suit!

I got so lucky that weekend because my cousin was also taking out her endownment at the temple and invited me and my family to come along. It is an indescribable feeling to be at the temple with your entire family.

That same day was Mikaela's bridal shower! It was so fun to see one of my best friends, Jennie!

The end of August, Tanner surprised me by booking a little bed & breakfast in Odgen for the weekend! It was a little cabin up the canyon. It was beautiful! He also attended a concealed carry gun fighting class. He had a great time.

Stadium of Fire!
Carrie Underwood was so amazing. She is such a good performer.

My Birthday present finally arrived over 4th of July weekend... MY PUPPY!!!! Her name is Sadie and she is so much fun! She is very playful and really like attention. Kim drove all the way from California (12 hours) with 11 puppies in her van so they could sell some here in Utah. All those puppies were in our backyard at one point.
